Masters of the Air Turn 4

We are now into January/ February 1944. The Allies want to land in France in the Summer. The Axis have given up their medium bombers in France. They have less single engined fighters in the west of Germanty than they had before but they are better quality. The Allies are punishing the German industrial output. Hitler weeps as the US deploy another B17 and an extended range P51D fighter and a P38 lightning agile heavy fighter with a decent range too. The RAF gain a Pilot but do not put the Welllington back on. The Italians produce a MC202 single engined fighter in Rome and have a Pilot to fly i. The Germans produce a pilot and a Me410 heavy fighter. The game lists it as a night fighter but it wasn't used as that in real life so I won't be using it that way either.  The weather is snowy. The Allies move their planes from the US to the UK. The Italian fighter moves to Milan to protect it from US bombers. Theweather remains snowu. Nevertheless the US sends a wave of bombers straig

Masters of the Air Turn 3

The November/ December Turn opens. Germany gets another Pilot so deploys a new FW190 in the Ruhr and brings an older Bf109 out of reserve there - only 2/10 of a Pilot needs to be lost before it goes into mothballs but it will be there to help whilst it can. A new flak division arrives in Berlin. The older flak division there will get moved elsewhere. The RAF gets a second Halifax heavy bomber and pilot. The US gets a new B17 and an extra Pilot on top.  The weather remains Stormy so only rebasing is allowed. The new flying fortress arrives in East Anglia. The old flak division in Berlin is rail moved to Bucharest - it will become active next Turn. The Bf110 moves closer to the Ruhr. With 4 single engined fighter units as well Hitler is confident his fighters can keep the Allies at bay.  Next phase the weather becomes Fair. Hitler curses as this means bombs even in Winter. The Allies strike for Hamburg with RAF medium and heavy bombers and US heavy bombers fly over the North Sea to avoi

Masters of the Air Turn 2

This Turn starts with reinforcements. Germany has one figher and one pilot to fly it. It has a fighter next Turn but no Pilot (it can only make one pilot every 2 turns). So it can either choose to put a fighter in France or  Germany into reserve now so it's Pilot is available for next Turn or pay 2 Victory Points (VPs) to put either a ground attack plane or medium bomber or fighter unit from Italy or the Eastern Front into Reserve (it's assumed that by doing this you cause a major weakening on those Fronts). They put an older fighter in Stuttgart into reserve. There's also no Rumanian figher so that is removed. The Germans should have an additional heavy fighter so the Ju88 is placed in NW Germany and the Bf110 night fighter placed in souh Germany. The Commonwealth (CW) should also have a heavy fighter instead of a third single engined fighter so the Mosquito night fighter is chosen instead of the older Spitfire VB. The CW deploys a Tempest fighter with a Pilot to fly it.

New Game - Masters of the Air Turn 1

I'm going to start a new game using the "sandbox" approach to reflect the US and Commonwealth (CW) bombing offensive on Germany from July 1943.  It will be mostly fighters and bombers (4 engined bombers plus mosquitos and wellingtons for the RAF) on the map but also a US and CW HQ in East Anglia to allow multiple basing of units on a hex. Flak divisions will also be placed. The moves will consist of redeploying moves from (US or the Eastern Front) of fighters and bombers. US bombers will be based in N Africa then Foggia in Italy from September 43. Targets will be Axis factories and oil. The aim is to achieve air supremacy over France by forcing the Luftwaffe to defend Germany. Secondary targets include Rumanian oil. Germany can only redeploy fighters from the Eastern Front after the Allied bombing raids in July/ August turn but the more they redeploy from the Eastern Front it will cost them a victory point penalty as they will allow the Soviets to establish air superiori

The End of the game

The Commonwealth launches repaired tankers including one in Australia. 2 light cruisers, a Chindit division and a great Tempest 2 fighter in India and 20 Offensive points (new total 25) and Burmese Territorials in Rangoon. France gets 15 Offensive points. Hitler gets Hamburg militia and Guderian comes back northwest of Stettin having just avoided the Allied encirclement. The Soviets add a  guards cavalry corps and 2 bombers to Siberia and 30 Offensive points  (new total 37) and a sub at Vladivostok. China gets a Nationalist mechanised corps and 5 Offensive points (new total 10). Japan gets 5 Offensive poitn s (new total 8). The mighty Musashi battleship is launched and two carriers are repaired and have two planes each and are added to the Kido Butai . The US adds 45 Offensive points to get a total of 49 Offensive points. A host of naval and air units of which 5 Essex class carriers mostly with one plane each are launched. A mountain infantry corps is also produced for the Italian f

Spring brings hope for the Allies that they can finish off the Axis before year's end. Germany is stubbornly clinging on.  Japan launches a heavy carrier with an excellent and an adequate plane. Japan raises Chinese militia in Kweihans to protect it against further Chinese Nationalist attacks. China has no units to deploy. The French have 2 convoy points to launch. Italy produces a garrison corps, an infantry corps and a repaired modern battleship. Germany deploys the blitzed Manstein HQ and infantry corps and  flak gun in or near Stettin. A garrison corps and Kiel militia deploy in Kiel. An infantry corps is formed southwest of Vienna. 2 fighters deploy in Prague and Vienna. The Commonwealth launch a new aircraft carrier and a new carrier plane. Repaired battleships relaunch in London and across the Med. An Indian paratrooper corps is placed in Calcutta. A Polish armoured corps is produced in Birmingham.  The US deploys its usual horde of units including a Brazilian and US armour

The Last Year Begins

Image
Surely the last year of the war now with Germany in mortal danger and then Italy and Japan at risk of being swamped by the Allies. The Chinese Communists place a weak garrison division in Lanchow and a weak infantry army to the southwest of it. The Commonwealth gets 15 Offensive points, two repaired Tanker points,  a supply unit and a cruiser and New Zealand deploys a motorised infantry corps. Japan gets 5 Offensive points and the Soviet ambassador notes the 3 armoured/ mechanised corps, an armour HQ and an anti-aircraft division with anti-tank capability are fielded this Turn. If they get to Korea before the Soviets can declare war it might prevent the Soviets declaring war as they need to have double the value of armed forces combined with Offensive markers as the Japanese. Weak Indo-Chinese Territorials are raised in Saigon. Italy places a good fighter unit in Rome. Germany places excellent fighters - one apiece in Berlin and Vienna. An excellent garrison corps forms up southwest o
