Masters of the Air Turn 4

We are now into January/ February 1944. The Allies want to land in France in the Summer. The Axis have given up their medium bombers in France. They have less single engined fighters in the west of Germanty than they had before but they are better quality. The Allies are punishing the German industrial output. Hitler weeps as the US deploy another B17 and an extended range P51D fighter and a P38 lightning agile heavy fighter with a decent range too. The RAF gain a Pilot but do not put the Welllington back on. The Italians produce a MC202 single engined fighter in Rome and have a Pilot to fly i. The Germans produce a pilot and a Me410 heavy fighter. The game lists it as a night fighter but it wasn't used as that in real life so I won't be using it that way either.

The weather is snowy. The Allies move their planes from the US to the UK. The Italian fighter moves to Milan to protect it from US bombers. Theweather remains snowu. Nevertheless the US sends a wave of bombers straight at Berlin accompanied by lots of fighter units accompanying them. The RAF sends its night bombers on a circuitous route to avoid the Bf110 night fighters but not the Ju88 night fighters also to Berlin. The long distance and snowy weather cut the bombing effectiveness to a quarter. As its 1944 the RAF night bombing is now 75% of that then if it was day time. The fighters in the Ruhr take on the massed US fighters. One fighter is aborted each with 2/10 pilot losses and 1 VP each. I think 2/10 is not enough and at this stage of the game will increase it to 4/10th. The Germans keep fighting as there is only one fighter in Berlin. They also send in the heavy fighter Me410 but that causes a one shift penalty on the combat as it is not an agile fighter. The fighting rages for two more rounds. The German heavy fighter is aborted with loss of 4/10 pilot and one VP to the Allies. The Germans retreat leaving one fighter alone to defend Berlin. The German fighter gets aborted for more Pilot losses.  Now its the night fighter against the RAF. The night fighter does little. Now its the turn of the flak. Flak hits the night bombers hard aborting the Mosquito bomber and causing 4/10 Pilot loss and 1 VP for the Axis but barely does anything against the US bombers. The bombs are dropped and 3 Production points are lost for the Germans. The Germans are over one Pilot down and lose a Stuka over the Eastern Front to make up for it and give up 2 VPs. The US bomb Trieste but do no damage.

The weather is snowy again. The Allies spend 4 VPs to attack Hamburg. Only day fighter and a night fighter can defend. The German fighter is aborted causing 4/10 casualties and one VP loss to the Allies. At night the German night fighter does little. The Flak does little to ward off the Allied bombers. The Allies cause 1.5 Production point damage.

The Turn ends. The Allies have caused 4.5 rounded up to 5 so get 5 VPs. The Germans give up the fighter in France so lose 2 VPs. The Germans have 0 VPs and the Allies 41 VPs. There is no point in beginning any new planes or Pilots as they won't be ready by the time the game ends so only units on the Production Circle will be continued. Only one more Turn left and the Axis are in a sorry shape.
