Japan - the centre of the storm

The Axis easily win Initiative this Turn - for the second Turn in a row. The Weather is rainy in the Northern Hemisphere but Fine everywhere else including the Mediterranean. Japan completes its fortification on Midway making the crucial island a tough nut for the US to crack. Mussolini chooses a no-cost combined impulse. His naval aircraft do well in the Western Mediterranean - they send the Beaufighter back to base, damage a convoy and send two light cruisers back to base. The Nazgul flies to the East Mediterranean but waits there to intercept any transports carrying the troops in the East Mediterranean. Subs in the Cape Vincent get caught by Beauforts and damaged.  Japan chooses a Naval impulse. Escorts are sent out. Subs are sent to guard against the Pacific Fleet moving out of port in Samoa. Minisubs are sent against Pearl Harbour but have little effect. Yamamoto HQ moves nearer to Australia to Rabaul. The  Kido Butai main fleet, fighter and 3 subs move to Polynesia...

Is this Autumn-time for Hitler and Germany?

Image
Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin meet in a conference and plan to achieve serious inroads into Germany by Summer 43. Stalin takes the implicit message that Berlin is his. Are the Allies counting their chickens? Hitler hopes so. He reckons he can generate good quality infantry and garrison units faster than the UK can and the US can get them over the Atlantic. If Mussolini can draw away the Yanks to the South of France then Hitler can match the number of British corps at the border of France. He can use his reinforcements this Turn including units that were Broken through last Turn and now returning to the fray against the Soviets. Stalin has to move units to Poland and the Baltics by rail which will disorganise them and mean they might not be able to fight till next Turn. Both sides roll for Initiative and the Axis win. The weather on the next impulse is rain except the Med and south of the north monsoon zone. Mussolini disbands a weak biplane unit in France and keeps the pilot....

Total War Part 2

Image
The second part of July August 42 will be discussed here. The weather is fine most places but stormy in the N Monsoon zone. The Commonwealth chooses a Land impulse. They move armour units to attack the Germany infantrry unit guarding the southern end of the Seine line whilst other units rearrange themselves facing the Axis. Mosquitos ground strike the infantry unit and Bf109s and Spitfires abort each other allowing the Mossies to disorganise the German infantry. The US choooses a no-cost combined. Transports unfliped by MacArthur last Impulse move the LA militia, an airborne corps and AA and motorised artillery division across the Atlantic towards France. They then move across France towards the Seine. The Montgomery HQ, American motorised infantry corps and two armoured corps attacked the disorganised German infantry corps. Stukas support the German infantry but Monty rolls poorly. The German infantry is still destroyed and the armoured corps occupy its previous location but all ...

Total War Part 1

Image
Every major power is at war with each other - except Vichy staying on the side lines. The UK uses all its intelligence points to influence the initiative roll and they are needed to just win initiative. On the first impulse the weather is Fine everywhere.  I discovered I had made another mistake- Rumania has a factory that can have been used to produce build points along with the one build point a turn promised by Hitler so long as Germany also provided it with a resource. So i let Rumania have a motorised infantry corps and placed that in place of the militia unit outside of Sevastopol which moved back inside to Rumania. I also decided to favour narrative logic over the rules and so if Germany wants to collapse Vichy instead of a telegram Hitler would need to send troops to impose his will as the Allies have landed in Occuppied France. Hitler needs to send an HQ or amoured corps plus one other unit (can be Italian). China chooses a Land impulse and tries to surround the Japa...

Japan's juggernaut advances and the USA enters Total War

Image
The weather is fine except in the North Monsoon area which may hinder Japan's attacks in Asia. The US chooses a no-cost combined action and aligns Central America which has two weak infantry corps but a useful 9 convoy points and 1 tanker point which the US uses to transfer one resource to itself and another to Brazil when it aligns Brazil in the future. Eisenhower HQ and the strong motorised corps are transported to Belfast. The Catalina moves to the 4 box in the US East coast sea box. Free French transport which previous impulse had set off for America stops off at Washington to pick up a Mitchell B25 medium bomber based there. Eisenhower flips over to reorganise the two Transporters in Belfast and the sub in Derry so they can go back to the US. The Commonwealth choose a no-cost combined impulse and Monty sneaks past the u-boats in the North Sea in an Amphibious transport next to Lorient. The Royal Marines occupy Lorient allowing Monty to land unharmed. Brest is now out of suppl...

Tora ! Tora! Tora! Pearl Harbour is attacked and America enters the war

Image
I discovered i made a large mistake. US entry and tension values (which alows the US to take actions to help the Alies whilst Neutral then decalre war on the Axis) are supposed to be efectively double what I calculated them as. So the US has beeen far less active then it should have been and its war production has been far less). To compensate I allowed the 3 half built factories to be completed and active (equivalent to 12 build points in total and 2 Turns saved). I also alllowed the US to choose 3 Entry actions - they chose Pass War Appropriations Bill (increased production), Military Manouevres (so can call any type of Impulse not just no-cost Combined) and Occuppy Northern Ireland (so can base units there. get to use the factory and Belfast becomes a supply base for them). They also can declare war on Japan after this Turn or Germany/ Italy this Turn. (I want to see a Japanese sneak attack on the US but it will have to happen this Turn and ideally they wanted to do it the Turn...

Asia for the Asians

Image
Stalin has an involuntary bowel movement as he sees Hilter deploy a powerful SS mechanised corps, another mechanised corps, a panzer corps, three strong infantry including militia corps and a decent militia corps to his two weak militia armies and one excellent medium bomber unit to his adequate fighter and light bomber unit. The Polish front way well get cracked open. The Japanese massed forces in the Pacific cause concern to the Allies. The Axis win initiative but the Allies give up their +1 advantage for a reroll and gain advantage - Stalin did not want Hitler to get the jump on him. The Allies easily win initiative. The weather is bad - snow in the North, rainy in North Monsoon and Stormy in South Monsoon. All this makes the Japanese planned invasions difficult and impossible in some areas. Yamamoto curses.  China bombards Japanese fores with artillery and mainly misses but manages to flip over a Japanese HQ in North China. The US sends convoy escorts out for next Turn in ...
