World In Flames solo odyssey

I've always been a history buff and an interest in wargames

"World in Flames" is a famous "monster" game of thousands of pieces of great complexity.

For an introduction to this game this website is detailed and helpful

Does seem to be using a slightly older version of the rules

The latest rules and scenarios can be found here

I bought a module for Vassal from the company that makes World in Flames

Vassal is a computer program that allows you to play many boardgames especially wargames on your
computer and can be found here

I am going to use some additional rules of my own which i think makes it a better simulation rather than balances game play eg
  •  minor boosts to Commonwealth and French production to 0.75 from 1939
  •  air and artillery ground units can only ground strike a maximum of one unit
  •  you need to use a saved buildpoint for each impulse after the 4th, double oil consumption in some weather conditions eg snow/ blizzard
  • have to pay one BP for every 25 factors used in combat (to reflect attrition) except for Soviet Union in first 3 years of conflict with a major power and China never
  • garrison troops to reduce partisan activity have to be out of movement range not just ZOC of enemy and do not include air units (but garrison values needed reduced by 33-50% to compensate)
  •  RAF bomber command reduces night bombing by a 1/3 (not half) in 1943, by 1/4 in 1944 and uses full factors in 1945,
  • Italian navy has -1 to surprise points in first 12 months of conflict (no ship radars till Germany supplied them),
  • Red army has 9 armies (but has to pick the lowest value ones) in Europe but no Timoshenko and only 1 artillery division (big change but more realistic)
